Story time with author

Pupils at Spalding Parish Day School were buzzing with excitement when a children’s author made a visit.

Tom Palmer is the author of more than 16 books for young readers, including award-winning historical fiction and three Puffin football series.

One of his titles, Angel of Grasmere, has been chosen as part of the Summer Reading Challenge this year.

He also gave pupils a few insights into his new novel, but kept some ‘top secrets’ under wraps.

The visit was arranged as part of the school’s commitment to promoting a love of reading and history. Year 6 children have been exploring Tom’s books as he’s known for his storytelling.

Pupil Dylan (above) was given a historical reading certificate. Tom told the group how he plans books using detailed research and character maps.

“It was an unforgettable experience for our pupils. Tom’s visit brought history to life,” said teachers Emma Weatherhill and Amelia Siddall.
