Squadron set for Winkfest

A festival organised by a local family is back this Saturday on what would have been one of its member’s 99th birthday.

Winkfest was started by Dave Grimwood, known as Wink, and his mum Violet, around 15 years ago because they wanted to raise money for the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.

It was originally in the garden of their Moulton home but had continued to grow and this year it’s at The Swan in Moulton from 3pm on Saturday (August 1).

The date is significant as Violet, who passed away two years ago, would have turned 99.

Local singer and guitarist Chris Martin will be playing at 4pm as will Peterborough band Squadron in the evening.

Between there will be a disco provided by Wink who who says his nickname came because he wore winklepickers to school.

“It should be a fantastic day,” Wink said. “We’ve fantastic food and music on offer and some brilliant raffle prizes.

“It’s all to raise money for the air ambulance.”
