Several roadsides in Spalding are looking much tidier thanks to a spring clean by Spotless Spalding and friends last Saturday.
The group started near The Robin Hood pub in Bourne Road and covered Winsover Road, Green Lane and St Thomas’s Road, including behind a wall which is becoming known as a litter hotspot.
Spotless Spalding founder Jack McLean, a South Holland District Council member for St John’s ward, said: “We joined Network Rail at the St John’s Road bridge to look at how to make progress there.
“It was agreed that Network Rail would clean the land they owned within seven to ten days.
“The cutback of vegetation is a long-term ambition and one that we will continue to pester them for.”

He added: “It wasn’t as big as last year’s ‘Clean for the Queen’ but it was a responsible team and organising was made much easier for it.”
Coun Gary Taylor, Castle ward member and Lincolnshire County Council candidate for Spalding West in the forthcoming election, said: “This was a good opportunity to get out there and do our bit to make our area look cleaner.
“We also spoke to residents and they thanked us for our work and we also informed other residents about not playing furniture and general rubbish out on the streets on days when there is no collection.
“This was a positive event, however we still clearly have more to do regarding educating people not to drop litter and fly tipping, as well as encouraging them to join to make our environment cleaner and healthier.”
