Spalding native Charlotte Taylor led Great Britain to the gold medal at the European Cross Country Championships on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Nene Valley Harriers ace was the first senior ladies’ Team GB runner home on what was her debut in the competition, placing sixth in Slovakia.
Team captain Emelia Gorecka (eighth), Steph Twell (ninth) and Gemma Steel (tenth) were hot on Taylor’s heels to ensure they walked away with the gold medal.
Taylor – who has impressed on the USA college scene for the University of San Francisco – had feared that her place was under threat after a disappointing performance at the national championships in Liverpool prior to the meet.
But the England selectors stood by her – and their confidence was vindicated.
