Spalding United slip to sixth despite “very good” Stafford point

Spalding United picked up a very decent 0-0 draw at Evo-Stik League First Division South play-off rivals Stafford Rangers on Saturday.

The Tulips slip two places to sixth as a result of the stalemate, but boss Pat Rayment called the draw a “very, very good points for his side”.

Avelino Vieira, signed from Peterborough Northern Star on Friday, started for Spalding but couldn’t find the net. The only downside was a head injury to Nathan Stainfield, which forced him off in the the second period.

Elsewhere, South Holland duo Pinchbeck United and Crowland Town drew 1-1 in the ChromaSport Peterborough League Premier Division.

The draw is perhaps better for Crowland, who move off the foot of the table as a result.

Both Moulton Harrox and Holbeach United Reserves were beaten on the road, going down 1-0 and 3-0 at Peterborough Sports Reserves and Stilton United respectively.
