Battling Spalding Town held on for a losing draw against title hopefuls Market Deeping on Saturday – despite suffering a shocking collapse.
The derby started badly for Town, with Chris Jones cracking an impressive 117 as Deeping clocked up the day’s highest total of 271-7 at Outgang Road.
Spalding’s reply started well enough as Thivanka Rajaratne hit 89 to steer them to 150-1 – but Lee Peacock (5-54) led a Deeping recovery and ripped through the away batting line-up.
The home side looked on the brink of a maximum point return when Town slipped to nine down, but they held on superbly to close on 199-9.
More cricket to follow.
