Spalding sex attacker who tried to overdose is jailed for 11 years

A Spalding man who admitted a series of sex attacks has been jailed for 11 years.

Paul Jennings was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for life and given a life-time sexual offences prevention order.

Mr Justice Goss, passing sentence at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday (July 20), said Jennings had regarded his victim as an easy target.

The judge told him: “You engaged in a series of acts purely to obtain sexual gratification.”

Jennings (49), of Holbeach Road, admitted three charges of sexual assault by penetration and further charges of sexual activity and causing his victim to watch a sexual act.

Lisa Hardy, prosecuting, said the offences came to light in March this year after Jennings was caught in the act of carrying out an attack on his victim.

Police were called but before they arrived he took an overdose of tablets. He was taken to hospital as a result of the overdose and later gave a no comment interview.

Jonathan Straw, defending, said Jennings acknowledged he faced a long jail sentence.

He said: “The offences are dreadful and abhorrent. His best mitigation is his guilty pleas. He asks me to express his remorse.”
