Spalding rods fare well in Shield outing

Spalding Fishing Club put a team into the Eastern Region Shield on Sunday – the first time in nearly 15 years the club has done so.
The South Holland Drain was the venue for the day, kindly donated by Holbeach AA.
The Spalding team, consisting of Colin Fisher, Dave Corcoran, Nick Witteman, Andy Wilson, Gary Boxall and Alfie Kendall were up against some of the best in the area, including newly-crowned Division One National champions Diawa Tackle and Bates as well as Bait-Tech Maver Peterborough, Mark One and other local teams Holbeach AA and Deeping Angling Club.
Of the 13 competing teams, Spalding FC finished a very creditable sixth place with Corcoran coming third in his section, Boxall fourth and Fisher fifth.
As expected, romping home in first place was Diawa Tackle and Bates with Peterborough second, and Sensas Mark One third.
A special mention to East Lincs Anglers who came fourth with two local lads – Andi Shortland and Gary Hardy, who came third and fourth in their sections leading the way for their team.
In the individual stakes the top four all come from Decoy Bridge section.Deeping’s Tony Johnson led the way from end peg 13 with 11kgs, with Ray Malle second in the same section from Peg 1 with 10.30kgs.
