Spalding started the Hertfordshire Waterpolo League season with a 12-12 draw at home to Hertford.
An emotional game started with a minute’s silence to pay respect to Spalding player Jack Carpenter who had recently lost his fight with cancer.
Spalding gained an early lead but it was 3-3 at the first break.
The second quarter saw Hertford gain a two-goal lead with some fast breakaway before Spalding pulled back to go into half-time level at 7-7.
The third quarter ended with Spalding 10-9 ahead and they stretched that to 11-9 soon after the break. However, Hertford scored three times in quick succession before Spalding grabbed a last-minute equaliser to save a point.
Spalding’s scorers were Adam Found (3), Tom Marsters (3), Tom Norfolk (2), Aaron Trevor (2), Joe Scotney and Dan Leigh.
Spalding are back in action this evening (Thursday) at Dunstable.
