Spalding man ‘terrified’ by 3am burglars

A terrified householder hid under bedclothes as two women burgled his home at 3am, Lincoln Crown Court was told.

The man was woken up in the early hours by the noise from the intruders after they broke into the Willow Walk property in Spalding.

Rebecca Coleman, prosecuting, told the court: “he was terrified. He hid under the bedclothes.

“He pretended to be asleep when one of the intruders entered his bedroom and stole cigarettes and a lighter,” she said.

His wallet, bank cards and cash were taken in the incident, the court was told.

Police took fingerprints at the scene and later identified Sarah Smith, of Skegness, through fingerprints. Further inquiries identified Teresa Wilson (46), of Longs Wharf, Double Street, Spalding as her accomplice.

Smith (28) was jailed for nine months, suspended for a year with a 12 week night-time curfew and electronic tagging. Wilson was jailed for nine months, suspended for a year with a six month drug and rehabilitation requirement.

Jonathan Dee, for Wilson, said she had developed a heroin addiction as a result of taking prescription medicine while in America.

Chris Jeyes, for Smith, said she had a drug problem.
