Spalding Lions hand over £1,000 for mobile cancer unit

Spalding Lions have presented £1,000 to a charity which aims to bring a mobile chemotherapy unit to South Holland.

The cheque was presented to Rosa Woodley, head of events and community fundraising at the Hope for Tomorrow charity, which was set up after a woman lost her husband to cancer.

Whilst he was having his chemotherapy they had to travel several miles, and she had a vision of the treatment being taken to patients, especially those that were in outlying rural areas.

The charity was established with an aim of purchasing, equipping and maintaining for three years specialised units that are able to travel to community hospitals. South Holland has been earmarked as a possible location for one such unit.

Rosa gave a talk and presented a video to the Lions about the charity.

Lions President Richard Briers said: “It gave us great pleasure to present the cheque, knowing that Hope for Tomorrow was a worthy recipient of our money.”

Lion Jim Walker also handed £100 on behalf of Elaine Ladds, who collects donations at her card-making sessions. The proceeds always go to a cancer charity in memory of her father.
