Level crossing barriers in Spalding were stuck down for two hours on Saturday – the third such instance in little more than two months on the GNGE line which recently underwent a £280million upgrade.
Mill Green in Woolram Wygate suffered a component fault, but Park Road level crossing was also closed.
The fault occurred at 9.23am, with Network Rail staff getting road traffic in Park Road flowing again at 10.27am. The faulty component was replaced, and normal service resumed at 11.20am.
A Network Rail spokesman apologised for any delay, adding: “There was a fault with essential safety equipment within the track which lets the signallers know where trains are.
“Both of these crossings are on the same stretch of track so the barriers had to remain down for safety reasons.”
An investigation on the fault is under way. It is not known if it was linked to two previous issues at Mill Green since February.
