Super Sutton A show blows top-tier title race wide open

Just a week after a potentially season-defining win, Tulips B fell back into the clutches of their rivals in the Spalding and District Snooker League Division One title race.

The leaders were beaten 4-2 by an inspired Long Sutton A side, who were boosted by a stellar performance from guest player Dan Mayfield (O28).

He beat Joe Garland (scr) in the opening frame, before wins from the in-form Adam Barwell (O42) and Stuart Atkin (O42) sealed an impressive victory for the hosts.

With second-placed Donington C 6-0 winners over Holbeach A, they are now just seven points behind the leaders with two games left to play.

At the other end of the table, a 5-1 win from basement boys Crowland C at Consti F keeps their survival hopes alive. Jamie Beeken (O14) led the charge with a 41 break in the opening frame.

Fellow strugglers Holbeach C also won, as they edged out friendly foes Holbeach D 4-2 thanks to wins from Damian Lewis (R21), Dan Ashton (R14) and Paul Ashton (R7).

In Division Two, Bourne SC A are now top after a 4-2 victory over Consti G. Star man Mark Gray (O98) was on fire in that one, making breaks of 61 and 32 before reeling off a 22 clearance to win his frame. Michael Byrne (R14) and Ian Gibson (O7) were also on winning form.

Boundary A remain the mix for the title after a 4-2 win over their own at Gosberton B. Black-ball wins from Jim McGhee (scr) and Stewart Lilley (R7) in the finale delivered the goods for the Deepings side.

In Division Three, Gosberton D remain on track for top spot after a nervy 4-2 triumph at Whittlesey C. Simon Slinger (R7) got the all-important frame win at the death.

Second-placed Services D kept the pressure on with a 5-1 victory over Consti D on the Spalding baize.

They are just eight points behind with a game in hand after frame wins from Wigs Harrison (R7), Mike Small (R14), Karen Howlett (R21) and Tanya Peel (R14).

Elsewhere, Gavin Shinkin (R7) made a cool 22 break to steer Long Sutton C to a 4-2 win over Consti C.
