Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s Jordan Philpott was part of the England under-25 which won the recent British Isles series.
Having already represented England at under 18-level, Philpott was stepping up to the under-25 side for the first time at the Bristol event.
The Spalding ace was part of a rink skipped by Swale’s Perry Martin, with Tom Bishop leading and Conor Cinato number three.
England won all three of their matches against Wales, Ireland and the decider against Scotland on the last day.
Philpott’s set won 27-13 (v Wales), 23-11 (v Ireland) and narrowly lost 19-18 against Scotland, with the tournament already won.
- Spalding IBC’s friendly team picked up a fine 13-shot win on their travels at Skegness Indoor Bowls Club.
Spalding got off to a good start and, after seven ends, they were 30 shots up. But Skegness fought back and, by the 13th end, they were only one shot behind so it was game on.
Spalding had to dig deep to pull off a victory – which they did, finishing the game with a winning scoreline of 114-101.
The best winning rink was skipped by Mick Laidler, aided by Terry Grimshaw and Peter Bendall.
- Some 72 bowlers from the Spalding IBC took part in a tournament in aid of the British Heart Foundation on February 20.
Play saw 36 bowlers playing in teams of three for one hour, while after the competition 80 raffle prizes were provided for the occasion, raising £220.
The day was made possible by the facilities being made available free of charge by 1Life, the company running the complex. J2 Catering, the on-site caterers, also played their part by coming up with the £180 prize money.
The day was in itself something of an achievement, as there was so many new players taking part and most of all there was a strong contingency of club juniors.
There were two winning rinks both on the same points and only being separated by the one shot. The runners-up were Emily Day, Jenny Horner and Derek Hammond, who shared prize money of
£60 – but in the true spirit of the occasion one of these players immediately donated their share back to the charity.
The winning team were Lynne Smith, June Taylor and Keith Wood, who shared prize money of £120.
But the big winners were the British Heart Foundation, with £550 raised on the day.
