Spalding IBC mixed team passes a tough test at Barwell to set up date with Lincoln

Spalding Indoor Bowls came through a tough test in the national mixed knockout competition on Sunday as they beat Barwell by 77 shots to 56.

Spalding took the lead early on, but Barwell never gave in and it was two rinks that made the difference.

Annie Dunham’s set recorded an impressive 29-16 victory at Barwell whilst Graham Smith’s quartet posted a 29-9 scoreline to secure a place in the next round.

The rinks of Martin Spencer and Jordan Philpott contained Barwell’s other rinks, both narrowly losing 11-18 and 8-13 respectively.

Next up for the talented Spalding side in the coveted Egham Trophy is Lincoln on December 11.

  • Spalding IBC were dominant in their home fixture against Stamford in the men’s county league on Saturday.

They won on all five rinks with a score of 142-63 – taking 18 match points on the day.

  • Spalding IBC’s over-60s lost 108-84 at Scunthorpe in their latest county league clash.

Spalding won on one rink to collect two match points.
