Spalding Golf Club ladies storm to super Mail on Sunday success over Boston West

The ladies’ Mail on Sunday team at Spalding Golf Club roared to a 5-0 home victory over Boston West in a brilliant third round showing.

Lincolnshire girls’ county captain Lois Williamson (handicap 7) was first out for Spalding at the Surfleet course – and, despite giving six shots, she recorded a 4&3 success.

Captain Paula Brown (18) then won 5&4 on the 14th, quickly followed by a triumph from Pat West (5) who, despite giving 13 shots, also won 5&4.

The remaining two matches were alive going down 18th. Angela Roper (13) gave six shots to her opponent but finished 2up, while Claire Rylott (14) gave five shots but prevailed 1up.

  • Wayne Wallace, Mike Murphy, Eileen Bridge and Mary Gould (net 59.1) won the Texas Scramble event for senior men and women at Surfleet. Bob Pearson, Andy Ladbrook, Sue Matthews and Elaine Harrison (61.3) were second, while Elaine Harrison and Andy Ladbrook were nearest to the ninth pin.

Sutton Bridge Golf Club

Margaret Fox and Diana Coe won the ladies’ Fleur De Lys Trophy at Sutton Bridge Golf Club.

They edged out the level-pegging teams of Chris Burrell and Ann Cross and Betty Reeve and Janet Groves to take the top prize in a very competitive contest.
