Spalding Golf Club hosted the England Golf Junior Champion Club Competition last week.
This is an annual event in national golf and it was the first time the Surfleet-based club has hosted an event of this stature.
After two days of close competition the winners were Elinor Sleigh, Huxley Davies and Oli Millington, from Easthampstead Golf Club, with an impressive two-day total of 163 Stableford points.
They beat the second place team from Bungay & Waveney Valley, comprising sisters Jessica and Isabelle McDonald and Dylan Cook, by just seven points.
Lee-On-The-Solent’s trio of Theo Etherington-Curtis, Jake Binny and Nicholas Dunning, started the second day in fourth, but moved up one place to third in the overall standings, finishing with a total of 153 points, three behind Bungay & Waveney Valley.
A total of 31 clubs from all over England took part in the championship having previously come through the qualifiers, with each County Union affiliated to England Golf able to nominate one club to compete.
A spokesman from Spalding Golf Club said: “An enormous thank you to all the clubhouse, shop and course staff, plus the many volunteers and England Golf officials for all their efforts behind the scenes helping to make this a memorable few days for all participants and spectators involved.”
The three-day tournament (two days’ playing with one practice day), saw 90 entrants under 18 from all over England take part.
There were more than 250 people on site each day and the club has been chosen to host a similar event in 2027.
