Spalding footbridge attacked with vandalism again

A footbridge over the railway line in Spalding has been vandalised for a second time in as many months.

Writing in white paint has been daubed on the sides of Stepping Stone Bridge, which links King’s Road with Park Road.

A nearby resident, who claims the area around the bridge is attracting other unsavoury behaviour too, said: “Now that it has been hit again perhaps it is time to consider a bridge with railings so that the sides cannot be vandalised in this way.
“A lot of people use that footbridge and I do think that there should be some extra security on it, particularly for when the nights draw in.”

Ward district councillor Roger Gambba-Jones, who has campaigned for previous vandalism to be quickly dealt with, said he had had discussions on site about the suitability of the bridge’s solid sides.

“Maybe this incident will help push them [Network Rail] down the route to replacing it”, he said. “It’s not what we asked for, it’s not what we wanted.”
