Spalding cycling action group Pedals appeals for people to be watchdogs

Spalding’s cycling action group wants to create a network of watchdogs.

Pedals is hoping to cover Spalding, Pinchbeck and the surrounding area.

Chairman David Jones said: “Each watchdog will keep an eye on what has been done or needs to be done for cyclists in places with which they are familiar; it could be the where they live, or where they work, or where their children go to school. Pedals will pass the information and ideas from the watchdogs on to the local authorities.

“We are very concerned about the slow progress in encouraging more people to cycle, especially for short journeys, in and around Spalding. For example, routes from the main residential areas to schools need to be complete in order to be as safe as possible and well-used.
“Information from people who know their locality well is vital so that we can have the best possible knowledge about where people feel safe and unsafe on their bicycles, and what could be done to make things better.”
