Spalding will be hoping their batters fire soon, as they again struggled at Grimsby Town in the Lincolnshire Premier Division on Saturday.
Spalding were bowled out for 93 in 27.3 overs having been put in by the home side who were promoted last season.
Barnaby Dring (17) had helped Town to 46-4, but they then lost three wickets without adding to the total and it soon became 50-8.
Aussie leg spinner Walter Kinlock top scored with a counter attacking 19 from 13 balls, and Elliot Humphreys added 13 as Spalding looked to churn out as many runs as possible with a host of overs in hand.
Muhammad Ayub did most of the early damage claiming 5-23 from 10 overs while Jack Harrison (3-24) and Harrison Tice (2-18) also took wickets for Grimsby.
The home side took less than 20 overs to knock the runs off.
Openers Neal Snell (26 not out) and Danny Foxcraft (29) laid the foundation with an opening partnership of 57.
There was a slight wobble instigated by Kinlock (2-16) and Barnaby Dring (1-22) but Kris Hall hit three fours in nine balls to see Grismby to the win.
Monday saw the group stage of the Winkworth Cup, but Spalding were unable to progress up against Sleaford and Market Deeping.
The latter thrashed Spalding by nine wickets in the opener as Town’s bowling failed again.
As on the previous day, Kinlock top scored hitting 24 but Spalding were 103 all out in the 16th over.
Harsh Bhandari (1-16) had Josh Smith (3) caught by Divyeah Vaseeharan early doors but it was as good as it got for Spalding.
Aashar Memood hit 66 not out as Deeping chased down their target with nine wickets and six overs to spare.
Spalding would have needed a big win over Sleaford to qualify and they did win having lost less wickets, it wasn’t enough.
Town batted first and this time batted out the 20 over scoring 117-5.
Skipper Ollie Dring led the way with 42 and shared in partnership of 51 with Bhandari (27).
Kinlock (15) and Mehta (15) scored quicker than a run a ball to get the score up to 117.
Sleaford matched that score but lost six wickets.
Bhandari was the pick of the bowlers claiming 3-16 from his four overs with Dring (1-22), Kinlock (1-15) and Mehta (1-18) also chipping in.
Back in the league on Saturday, Spalding will hope to earn a first victory of the season when they host Nettleham at Seas End Hall. They are also yet to win this season.
Spalding Town 2nd XI were also in cup action last weekend, hosting Billborough 2nd XI in the Dave Morris Trophy on Saturday.
They had no answer to the visitors’ Jonathan Payne who carried his bat for 152 not out hitting 24 fours and two sixes.
The knock comprised the vast majority of Billingborough’s 269-6 and came despite Thomas DeCamps (2-51) and Josh White (1-30) making early in-roads for Spalding.
Lily Spridgen (1-28) and Jay White (1-62) also picked up wickets.
Spalding were then 73 all out in the 28th over with Jay White’s 25 not out helping them from 35-6 until he ran out of partners.
