Long Sutton still looking for first win

Long Sutton are still searching for their first win of the season in the South Lincs and Border League Championship after losing by eight wickets to Boston on Saturday.

The home side at Paradise Field were bowled out for 115, a target that Boston 2nd XI knocked off with two wickets down.

Sutton face Moulton Harrox in their derby match at Harrox Playing Field on Saturday.

There was a heavy defeat too for Sutton’s 2nd XI who went to Burghley Park in Division One.

Burghley opted to bat first and Long Sutton enjoyed early successes through Daniel Plant (3-26) and Steve Norris (1-36) leaving the hosts 41-4 and then 64-5 after Eranda Kumara (1-45) bowled opener Andy Briault (21).
James Biggs (45) and Jim Mcintosh (37) rebuilt until both were ousted by Joseph Broomfield (2-57).

Burghley enjoyed a strong finish as Nick Fisher hit 66 not out from 59 balls and Lewis Banthorpe 50 not out from 38 deliveries.

The pair put on an unbroken stand of 120 to see their side post 273-7 from their 45 overs.

Sutton slumped to 39-4 in reply before Philip Barnes (27) and Steve Norris (54 off 40 balls) put on 83 for the fifth wicket.

They looked in with a shout at 122-4 with half the innings still to go.

But the slump was dramatic as they lost their last six wickets for 11 runs and were 133 all out in the 29th over.
