South Holland to recognise Merchant Navy Day and anniversary of World War Two’s start

An Armed Forces service to commemorate the start of World War Two will take place in Spalding on Tuesday, September 3, at St Mar;ys and St Nicolas Church, alongside a council-run flag-raising marking Merchant Navy Day.

The flag raising ceremony at the South Holland District Council offices, at 9.45am.

The church service, which marks the day Britain declared war on Germany, will follow at 11am.

Service organiser Jan Whitbourn said: “Everyone attending the ‘Flag Raising’ at SHDC is invited to come over to the Church afterwards to attend this service, the Council will be putting on teas/coffees as usual after the

‘Flag Raising’, time for a quick ‘cuppa’ and walk straight over to the church.”
