Snooker round-up: Terrific Tulips A put skids on table-toppers’ title tilt

Tulips A produced one of their best results of the Spalding and District Snooker League season so far as they beat in-form Division One leaders Holbeach A 4-2.

The table-toppers had been threatening to run away with the title, but came unstuck at home against a Tulips side that are fighting for survival at the other end.

Talisman Bren Bowman (O56) made a 29 break early on in the clash, but it was Martin Anderson’s (O7) final frame success over Mick Ayres (O7) got the job done.

That allowed second-placed Services E to close the gap at the top by defeating Boundary B 4-2.

A 30 clearance from Pete Fisher (O28) and Phil Spencer’s (O21) 22 clearance were the highlights for the title hopefuls, while Kev Emerson (R14) was the match-winner.

However, Pyramid B lost more ground in the race for honours as they were handed a 5-1 reverse by Donington C.

Bourne SC A remain fourth after they eased past rock-bottom hosts Consti F 5-1 in a game that showcased the best break of the week.

Star man Mark Gray (O105) was the man on-song as he sank a 80 break in his triumph over Martyn Stanley (R21).

Meanwhile, Donington A enjoyed a potentially pivotal 4-2 win at Services C as they moved out of the bottom two.

Tony Scully’s (O35) impressive 77-34 victory over cue ace Craig Fitter (O63) in the final frame sealed the win for Donington.

There was also a cool 32 break from Mat Smith (O35) as his Long Sutton A side were beaten 4-2 at Holbeach D, while Damo Lewis (R7) sank a 31 break to give Holbeach C a 4-2 win at Pyramid A.

In Division Two, leaders Boundary A returned to form with a maximum 6-0 whitewash over hosts Services A and are two points clear.

Pyramid D, in second, kept the pressure on by picking up a 5-1 win of their own at Consti B as Richard Skellett (O14) pocketed a 30 break.

The highest individual score at this level came from Long Sutton B’s Carl Parnell (O28), who made a fine 46 break in a 5-1 team success over Consti H.

Team-mate Philip Goodman (O42) reeled off a 38 break in the same game.

Also impressing was Daz King (O14), who made a 37 break in Boundary C’s 4-2 victory at Pyramid C.

Down in Division Three, table-topping Donington B suffered a surprise 4-2 defeat at Consti C.

Not even a 23 break from Gav Lewis (scr) could save the leaders from suffering a rare defeat.

That allowed Long Sutton C to jump back into the title picture with a 5-1 win at Services D, as Susan Lefley (R21), Alan Fleet (O21), David Lefley (scr) and Alex Bourne (O7) all had frame triumphs.

Also impressing were Holbeach E, who beat hosts Consti E 5-1 with Zac Rowlett (O14) making a 29 break.

It was closer between Gosberton B and Whittlesey B, as Gary Thewliss’ (O7) 22 clearance in the last frame gave the latter a 4-2 victory.
