Snooker round-up: Brilliant Bowman makes 69 break in Tulips A defeat

A super 69 break from Bren Bowman lit up the Spalding and District Snooker League on Thursday night.

The Spalding cueman, who plays off an O56 handicap, made the top eligible break of the season so far in a frame victory against Nick Edwards (scr) – and also finished with a 27 clearance.

Bowman’s heroics were in vain, however, as his Tulips A side were upset 4-2 at home by Holbeach in Division One. Paul Boucher (O21) made a 30 break for the winners.

At the top of the table, Pyramid B made it five wins from five with a 4-2 triumph at Services C. Jason Green (O63) impressed with breaks of 28 and 22 for the table-toppers.

Holbeach A are second, just a point back, after a 5-1 home success over Boundary B. Jem Merrison (O35) made a 31 break for them, while Mick Ayres (O7) clinched the win with a 24 break in a frame against Brian Addy (scr) that went to a re-spotted black.

A further point behind are Bourne SC A, who were 4-2 victors at Holbeach D.

Pete Hodgson-Kerry (O21) sank a 38 break to settle the one in the final frame.

Also on impressive individual form was Sean Swinburn (O42), as Long Sutton A defeated Donington A 5-1. He made a 33 break.

In Division Two, Services A suffered their first defeat of the season after being edged out 4-2 at home by Gosberton A.

Chris Mumby (R14) settled the one with a final frame win, while Pete Mullane’s (O21) 28 break was the top individual score on the night.

That scoreline allowed Boundary A to take over at the summit following their 4-2 home win against Consti I.

Barry Malthouse’s (R14) last-gasp win over Richard Geddes (R14) gave the Deepings side the lion’s share of the points there.

Elsewhere in the second tier, breaks of 31 and 21 from Barry Haynes (scr) and Neil Harvey (O14) respectively as Holbeach B saw off Services B 4-2.

Also on-song was Doug Garfoot (O21), who made breaks of 31 and 20 for Consti H – but his side went down 4-2 at Pyramid C.

In Division Three, previously unbeaten leaders Long Sutton C were toppled 4-2 by second-placed Donington B. Wins from Pete Burrell (scr), Gav Lewis (scr) and Dave Banister (R7) got the job done.

The top performer at this level was Holbeach E’s Zac Rowlett (O14), who pocketed a 40 break in the 5-1 victory at Gosberton C.

Pushing him close was Martin Perkins (O28), who sank a 36 break to help Consti D defeat Whittlesey B by a 4-2 scoreline.

Also on-song was Stew Davies (O14) with a 30 break as Consti J picked up a 4-2 success over Pyramid E.
