Slater and Ward add to tallies but it is in vain

Two matches in four days yielded just a single Thurlow Nunn League Division One North point for Pinchbeck United.

That came in last Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at FC Peterborough, courtesy of Taylor Jaine’s
85th-minute equaliser.
Saturday saw play-off bound Harwich & Parkeston in town and they appeared to be suffering from travel fatigue after their journey from the Essex coast. Pinchbeck gave a debut to Jack Wilson, with Daniel Abayomi returning to the heart of defence.
Flynn Slater’s 11th strike of the campaign put the Knights ahead from close-range after 11 minutes and JJ Ward kept pace at the top of the leading scorers’ charts with his tenth nine minutes later.
However, the visitors came storming back and pulled one back from the penalty spot after 30 minutes before levelling just before the break.
The turnaround was completed five minutes into the second half when Harwich went 3-2 up and they netted another from close range to complete a 4-2 victory.
It leaves the Knights four places of the play-off positions but 11 points adrift and 11 games still to play. They trail local rivals Holbeach by eight points but from two games fewer, with the rivals scheduled to meet at Carter’s Park in the last match of the season on Easter Monday, April 21.
Knights (at Peterborough): Martin, Stevens (Ratley), Doran, Melson, Cranfield, Jaine, Howlett, Ward (Abayomi), Slater, Cullen, Williams. Subs: Taylor, Barker.
Attendance: 94.
Knights (v Harwich): Martin, Stevens, Doran, Melson, Cranfield, Abayomi, Howlett, Wilson, Slater, Cullen, Ward. Subs: Panton, Ratley, Tate, Barker. Attendance: 45.
