Sky Sports success for Gleed

Spalding’s Sir John Gleed School has been awarded a commendation for successfully completing its Sky Sports Living for Sport Project.

Eighteen students spent two days with Sky Sports Athlete Mentor ex-Paralympic World Champion swimmer Fran Williamson working through a number of tasks, including learning about the Sky Sports Six Keys of Success and improving teamwork, communication and confidence skills.

Students then designed and created their own sporting activity to teach to primary school children and produced a task card for these. The group then presented these to Spalding Primary School students.

Ian Billinghurst, head of Year 10, said: “All students were fantastic ambassadors for the school and gained many valuable life skills that they will be able to use throughout their lives.”

The school has already had its project accepted by Sky Sports this year, and will be welcoming Great Britain’s number one female Moguls Skier Ellie Koyander to the school to work with 20 Year 10 students.

Mr Billinghurst added: “Our students are really looking forward to being part of the project this year and working with Ellie.”
