Spalding’s under-14 boys completed their England Hockey under-14 Championship programme with an outstanding 6-0 victory over Staffordshire based Lichfield at Glen Park on Sunday.
The victory made it three wins – they also beat City of Peterborough (6-0) and Loughborough (8-0) – from the five games and means that the lads have finished in a very commendable third place in this tough league.
The defeats came at the hands of league winners Leicester (0-7) and Sutton Coldfield (2-5).
James Mayhew (2) and George Halgarth scored Spalding’s goals in a commanding first half to take their team into a 3-0 lead at the break.
Lichfield came into the game more in the second half but met with stern resistance from Matthew Peach and Shaun O’Leary in the Spalding defence.
A further two goals from Mayhew and one from Jacob Drew completed the scoring.
