Six-y show earns Long Sutton 2nd maiden win

Long Sutton ladies’ 2nd roared to their first win of the East Women’s League Division 3NW (N) as they crushed Woodhall Spa 1st 6-0 on Saturday.

With two draws already under their belt, Emma Howells put Sutton in command with two quick goals.

Sutton’s Millie Lamming graced the scoresheet again, while Georgina Maplethorpe crowned her all round good performance with two goals and player-of-the-match Katie Bedford got in on the act.

Elsewhere in Division 3NW, Spalding Poachers 2nd battled out a 3-3 draw at Skegness ladies’ 1st.

1-0 down at half time, Charlotte Morris hauled Spalding level soon after the break.

Alannah “AJ” Bunyan’s stealth pass then allowed Eva Keys to smash a thunderbolt into the backboard for 2-1, before she added to her tally with an emphatic short corner conversion by AJ.

Spalding Poachers 3rd, meanwhile, were handed a 3-1 reverse by Horncastle ladies’ 1st at Glen Park.

Steph Mountney had levelled to make the score 1-1, but Horncastle managed to beat an inspired Kath Martindale twice after.

Evie Maltby was named player of the match, having put in a tireless shift.

Up in Division 2NW, Long Sutton ladies’ 1st remain unbeaten at the top after defeating Cambs Uni 2nd 3-2.

An unfortunate own goal from Leanne Woodhead put Sutton behind – and it was soon 2-0. But Sutton hit back when Lisa Baker bagged before the break, setting the stage for Louise Southgate to notch twice in the second half to make it three wins from as many games for Sutton.

Spalding Poachers 1st were also in winning form as they saw off Cambs Nomads 1st 3-0 to go fourth. Katie Gray (2) and Becky Warr scored in a top team display.

  • Spalding’s girls progressed in the national under-18 cup with a 3-2 penalty flick victory over Norwich Dragons after a 1-1 draw. Kate Murray was Spalding’s scorer.
