SIX-A-SIDE SOCCER: Brennan’s long unbeaten run ended on ill-tempered night

A mixed evening of football in The Spalding and South Holland Voice Six-A-Side League saw a failure to show, dismissals and a handful of sin-bins – not to mention the end of a 15-match unbeaten run!

Division One got under way on a chilly night in Surfleet with Polishborough making light work of You’ve Got No Fans.
A convincing 6-1 win keeps Polishborough at the top with a 100 per cent start to this campaign and with other results going in their favour they now sit two points clear as early title favourites.
You’ve Got No Fans continued to press right until the end but even with a man of the match performance from Scott Williams they couldn’t stop the dominant force of Polishborough.
The Poles face Pinchbeck United next week before a big title-clash with Univeg Team. You’ve Got No Fans, meanwhile, will fancy their chances against an out-of-sorts EPH Allstars next Monday.

Pinchbeck United failed to attend their fixture against Notinmymums Forest and did not give appropriate notice. Therefore, they are fined one week’s match fee and given a 5-0 defeat.
The points and positive goal difference much welcomed by the Notinmymums Forest lads.
Thanks go to Division Two’s The TBME who kindly stepped in for a friendly against Notinmymums Forest.

Brennans Sports’ 15-match unbeaten run came to an abrupt end, Univeg Team turning over the reigning champions 4-0 in a one-sided affair. Brennans were not helped by the sending off of keeper James Kingston for foul and abusive language at 2-0 down.
Univeg used the chance to rub salt in the wounds and found plenty of time on the ball with the extra man.
The result puts Univeg just a point behind Brennans who will look for a quick return to form next week as they face another tough test against Baltic United.
Univeg goalkeeper Adrian Mecheres was given man of the match in this spicy game.

Old Boy Coaches managed to score their first goal and grabbed a win along the way with a comfortable 2-0 win against EPH Allstars. A much more refined and polished performance from Old Boys saw them jump to ninth place and return EPH to the bottom of the table.
Despite being on the losing side, Liam Groves was given man of the match by referee Matthew Follett following an impressive individual performance, matched with an incredible work-rate. EPH Allstars’ Andy Jones was given a two-minute sin-bin for dissent which allowed Old Boys to gain some valuable time on the ball as they dictated the tempo of the game.

Ultra D turned on the style and the charm in a surprising 5-4 win over in-from Baltic United.
Ultra D clearly not reading the script as they brought Baltic’s unbeaten start to a premature end.
The result keeps Baltic in second spot but allows Polishborough to pull away from the chasing pack. Edgaras Buzas was on target yet again and managed to secure another man of the match for the losers. This win puts the impressive Ultra D into the title mix and with Adam Winyard and co in form there is no limit to where this season could take them.
This victory is sure to send out a message to the rest of the front-runners in the top tier.
Incidentally, one player from each side spent two minutes in the sin-bin following an altercation midway through the first half.

Posh Old Boys’ slump in form continued as they went down 5-2 to hard-working Wet Dream Team.
Despite the best efforts from man of the match James Halesworth his side couldn’t get into the flow of the match and found themselves five down in no time at all. Jay Kimo and his unpredictable Wet Dream Team now sit in mid-table following this latest win and face the equally unpredictable Ultra D next Monday night. Division Two title-holders Posh Old Boys, meanwhile, sit in a precarious spot hanging above the relegation zone.

Division Two: Evolution hammered Borussia Teeth 9-0.
The boys in black were always in control with exhibition style play. Frontman Tomas Urbanavicius was in inspired form, lending a hand in pretty much every goal, either as the assassin or architect.
Evolution now sit pretty at the peak of the table with their 100 per cent record intact.

The TBME beat Tekkerslovakia 3-1 to record their second straight win. Gavin Sharman was the star man as they controlled possession.
Their quick pass-and-move football was one for the football purist to watch. Jamie Wroniak in the Tekkerslovakia goal was powerless to stop the peppered force that TBME unleashed on his goal.

Simple FC also maintained their perfect start to the season with a 4-1 win over BK’s Athletic.
The energy and stamina of BK’s wasn’t enough to overcome the organisation and skill of the Simple FC lads.
Carl Jones secured his second man of the match in as many weeks with another sublime display.

Le Saux Solid Crew came from two down to beat Mail Carters 7-3 in a goal-giving game.
Mail Carters seized the early chances and went two up within the first three minutes. Le Saux made a quick change, bringing on Harry Ledger, who turned the game on its head with a man of the match performance.
The final score a fair reflection of Le Saux Solid Crew’s dominance on an evening which could be seen as a pivotal kick-start to their season.

Sarah’s Boys beat Balotellitubbies 7-3 in another goal-fest. Ash Groom was on fire as Sarah’s Boys went seventh in the table.
Recently-relegated Balotellitubbies are struggling to find a solid defensive display and allowed Sarah’s Boys too much time to dictate the tempo and flow of the match.

Division Two wrapped up with another defeat for Dynamo Kiev. This time they went down 2-0 to the hard-working style of Goaldiggers.
Liam Dove got the nod as man of the match as Dynamo suffered their third straight defeat.
Goaldiggers will be hoping to start a promotion push following a few good showings.
