Six fines cancelled over signs

Six of the first 66 penalty notices handed out following the redrawing of the Spalding Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) have been cancelled, Lincolnshire County Council has confirmed.
Fines are now being handed out to those breaking the no vehicles policy between 10am and 4pm.
But the authority has put signs up that wrongly state that parking is not allowed at any time.
Its confirmed to the Local Democracy Reporting Service that as a result, six fines have been cancelled.
Each fine was for £70 or £35 if paid within 14 days.
As previously reported, 66 fines were handed out for driving or parking in the first two weeks of the TRO, which had previously been largely ignored, coming back to force.
Coun Rob Gibson said he hoped the signs would be replaced soon.
Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways at the county council, said: “I am sorry that there was an error with the enforcement changes that are designed to give this area of Spalding a pedestrianised space.
“This was a genuine mistake, and I want to apologise for what has happened.
“We have now brought in a change to the traffic order in line with the original plan. This will be in place with immediate effect.
“From now, between 10am and 4pm each day, Market Place and Hall Place will be a pedestrian zone with no traffic allowed to be in there to park, wait or load/unload. Enforcement will be in place during these hours.
“Outside of those hours, the restrictions will not be live and traffic will be allowed to drive through or park up. No parking enforcement will be carried out before 10am or after 4pm.”
