Simmonds clinches it with pinkie

With all the rain of the previous 48 hours, everyone at Tydd Gote Angling Club’s Sunday match were expecting the North Level to be low and out of sorts.

So, no-one expected it to be pumping hard and lowered by almost six feet.
With fishing restricted to the safer pegs and requiring some precarious manoeuvering of boxes and platforms, the omens were not great.
However, the early pegs produced fish from the off, with Ian Benton, Andy Lawrence and Dave Simmonds all finding small roach, rudd and bleak on the pole.
Simmonds just sneaked ahead and sealed his triumph with a late 4lb bream on pinkie, taken in only two feet of water, for a 8lb 6oz total.
Lawrence was second with 3lb 8oz, Benton third with 3lb 2oz and Steve Borrett fourth with 1lb 6oz.
