Moulton Harrox’s three-pronged bowling attack helped secure a seventh straight South Lincs and Border Division One win on Saturday at Baston to close the gap on leaders Market Deeping 2nd.
Louis Greetham (4-40), Alex Baker (3-9) and Carl Lamming (3-21) battered Baston and left them 74 all out in just 25.2 overs.
Leeming picked up the key wicket of Andy Keen (29) bowling the opener and leaving the batsmen with what turned out to be a less than straight forward chase.
Chris Beale (7) and Clive Baston (0) were out in quick succession in the reply and they also lost opener Mike Kearns (16), the latter two both falling caught off the bowling of Will Hawkins (2-18).
However Matthew Barnett batted brilliantly while wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end.
Baston’s Tim Dyer (3-11) caused a spot of panic in the tail but Barnett held firm and sealed the win with a knock of 31 not out that included two fours and a six.
Leaders Market Deeping 2nd had their games called off due to the rain allowing Moulton to close the gap to 30 points with Harrox also having two games in hand.
*Moulton’s Sunday side had a day to forget as they were thrashed by Wisbech Town 2nd inside 32 overs in Rutland Cricket League Division Four (East).
Batting first they were bowled out for just 46 and in that were thankful for the 21 bowling extras gifted to them.
Lewis Peak and Steve French were Moulton’s joint top scorers with 8 while five batsmen failed to trouble the scorers.
In the 26.2 overs Wisbech’s Ryan Van WaterSchoot claimed 4-12 from 10 overs, Harry Lovell 2-8 from five and Lyndon Mallett 3-1 from 3.2 overs.
Moulton’s Darren Hibbert (1-13) caught and bowled Tomas Hoyle (3) in the reply but Wisbech took just 13 minutes and five overs to seal the win.
