Seven-up rugby success for Spalding Grammar School

Spalding Grammar School’s under-15 team produced three excellent performances to win the South Lincolnshire Rugby Sevens competition.

Played at Spalding’s Memorial Field, Grammar’s opposition were Thomas Middlecott Academy, The Deepings School and Haven High Academy from Boston.
Spalding’s first game against Deepings was an end-to-end encounter and went down to the wire.

Grammar needed a late try from Chris Maxwell, who dodged two tackles before crashing over the try line, to seal a 10-7 win. A 38-0 victory over Haven High followed, before Spalding produced another good performance in their final game against Middlecott, scoring three tries to run out 19-5 winners.

The victory was an impressive one, considering that a number of first team regulars were unavailable due to them being involved in the under-16 county cup final.
