A customer who threatened a Gosberton garage worker with an extendable wheel brace has been detained in a secure hospital by a judge.
Jack Hempsall, 36, became aggressive after taking a vehicle to the Reeves Tyre Centre in Spalding Road on February 3.
Lincoln Crown Court heard Hempsall initially claimed the garage had over-charged his girlfriend for some previous work.
Leanne Summers, prosecuting, said Hempsall then went further and accused the garage worker of having an affair with his partner while he was in prison.
“At that point Mr Hempsall grabbed the extendable wheel brace and raised it above his head,” Miss Summers explained.
“The member of staff described being in fear for his safety.”
The court heard Hempsall was arrested a week later on February 11 after police were called to a disturbance in Trinity Street, Boston.
Miss Summers said on that occasion Hempsall was seen acting aggressively towards his girlfriend.
When police arrived Hempsall grabbed a female officer by her harness causing her to fall to the ground and bruise her arm.
Hempsall tried to run away and was only caught after another officer used PARVA spray.
The court heard Hempsall later admitted two charges of affray and assaulting an emergency worker relating to the incidents in Gosberton and Boston.
Tom Heath, mitigating, told the court Hempsall was later transferred to a secure hospital and examined by two doctors who both concluded he was suffering from serious mental illness.
Mr Heath urged the court to pass a hospital order so Mr Hempsall can remain at the location where he is getting treatment.
Judge Simon Hirst sentenced Hempsall to a Section 37 Hospital Order which means he will remain in a secure hospital for an unrestricted period.
He will not be released into the community until it is deemed suitable.
