Seal’s a problem for anglers

Spalding Fishing Club is holding an Extra Ordinary AGM at the Royal Mail Cart, Spalding, on Thursday, February 12.

Members and non-members are welcome.

This is to discuss the following items:

  • Removal of the seal from the River Glen – the demise of the fish stocks caused by the seal leads the club to believe the massive expense of £5,000 to remove the seal and transport it back to its natural habitat, the sea, needs to be done to save the river from decimation.
  • They have Rob Harris of Peterborough and District Angling Association to talk them through the process.
He and his club successfully gained the required certification and removed six seals from the River Nene and tributaries.
  • Additional waters for the club – the club is negotiating on a further drain and welcome members to submit their thoughts and ideas.
  • Restocking – the club has a licence for an additional 2,500 fish per year from Environmental Agency and needs to try and increase this including replacing the bigger fish lost i.e. pike, perch and bream.
