Saturday sport: Rare away win for Tulips, Tigers and Spalding RFC both beaten

Spalding United picked up a 1-0 win at Kidsgrove Athletic in Evo-Stik NPL First Division South on Saturday, while Holbeach United went down 1-0 at Cogenhoe United and Spalding RFC suffered a 16-12 loss at Sileby Town.

Starting with the Tulips, a first-half free-kick from Danny Brooks gave them a first victory away from home in Evo-Stik NPL since October.

Spalding move up two places in the table to 13th as a result, but did have skipper Gary King sent off later in the second half.

Meanwhile, Sean McBride’s 18th-minute strike sentenced Holbeach to a disappointing ChromaSport UCL Premier Division defeat at Compton Park.

The defeat sees Seb Hayes’ side fall nine points off the pace at the top in fifth spot.

Pinchbeck United’s game with Oakham United at the Sir Halley in UCL Division One was rained off.

In rugby, Spalding RFC’s defeat at Sileby sees them fall to eighth and they are now just five points above the bottom five.
