Saturday round-up: Spalding United denied key win, Pinchbeck United and Holbeach United lose at home

Spalding United were denied a huge victory by a last-minute goal at Pickering Town on Saturday, while both Pinchbeck United and Holbeach United suffered 2-1 defeats at home.

Starting with the Tulips, they looked set for a huge Evo-Stik NPL East Division victory at relegation rivals Pickering Town when Leon Mettam fired them ahead with a curling finish on the hour mark.

That’s how it stayed right up until the fourth minute of added time, when the hosts levelled through Ryan Blott’s 25-yard free-kick.

The point keeps Spalding 18th in the table, but they are now three points clear of the drop zone with four games left to play. 19th-placed Carlton Town do have a game in hand, however.

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck saw their ten-game unbeaten run ended by a 2-1 Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field reverse against Newport Pagnell Town.

Jordan Nuttell fired the Knights ahead with a fine finish early on, but Dom Lawless levelled before the break.

That’s how it stayed up until the final minute, when Yaw Ofosu headed home the winner for Pagnell from a corner.

Despite the defeat, Pinchbeck remain on track to finish in fourth place.

Below them, Holbeach United slipped to sixth after going down 2-1 against league leaders Daventry Town at Carter’s Park.

Will Bird gave the Tigers an early lead in what was a dress rehearsal for the League KO Cup final, but Luke Emery levelled,

Kieran Fitzgerald then got the winner on 86 minutes to inch the away side towards the title.

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox concluded their title-winning season in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division with a 7-0 win over ICA Sports at Broad Lane.

Doubles from Danny Lambe-Hyner, Joe Townsed and Marcus Parry secured the big win, while Declan Earth chipped in with a goal too.

In the Spalding Inter-Services Trophy final, Crowland Town beat Long Sutton Athletic Reserves 2-0 at Carter’s Park.
