Saturday football: Tulips edged out in thriller, late goal sinks Pinchbeck and Tigers hit for five on Clifton’s debut

Spalding United suffered a 3-2 defeat at Loughborough Dynamo on Saturday, while Pinchbeck United lost 1-0 to Deeping Rangers and Holbeach United were humbled 5-1 at home by Skegness Town.

In the Pitching In NPL Midlands Division, it’s now two defeats on the spin for Spalding after they were edged out in a cracker at Loughborough.

The Tulips fell 2-0 down by half time as the hosts netted through Curtis Burrows (pen 24) and Daniel Gordon (42).

But a double from top scorer Jordan Macleod (50 and 67) hauled Spalding, still under the caretaker charge of Bruno Porfirio, level and set up a grandstand finish.

However, moments after the Tulips felt they should have had a penalty when Stefan Broccoli was brought down in the box, Alex Steadman (79) netted the winner for Dynamo.

That leaves Spalding down in 12th place in the league, with the play-offs now 15 points away and looking a long way off.

In the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division, meanwhile, an 85th-minute header from Will Bird gave the derby spoils to Deeping Rangers and Pinchbeck United were beaten 1-0 at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

The loss sees the Knights remain 16th, just two points clear of Selston, who have played two games less and occupy the second relegation spot.

Below both of them are Holbeaach United, who were hammered 5-1 at home by Skegness in Danny Clifton’s first game as manager.

Two of the Skegness strikes at Carter’s Park came from former Tiger Jonny Lockie.

Holbeach remain ten points from safety and without a win at the bottom of the table.
