Saturday football: Ten-man Tulips beaten at home by Yaxley, big Pinchbeck win, Tigers hit for five

Spalding United suffered a 3-1 home defeat against Yaxley on Saturday, while Pinchbeck United climbed out of the drop zone with a 2-1 victory at Selston and struggling Holbeach United were thumped 5-0 at Quorn.

In The Pitching In NPL Midlands Division, Spalding lost for the first time under caretaker boss Bruno Porfirio as neighbours Yaxley completed a league double over them.

Pierre Omombe-Epoyo (14) and ex-Holbeach captain Spencer Tinkler (27) fired the Cuckoos into a 2-0 first-half lead at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, only for Josh Hinds (32) to get the Tulips – who had Chris Ward sent off between the two away goals – back in the game before the break.

That’s the way it stayed up until 12 minutes from time, when Matt Sparrow sealed the points for Yaxley.

The loss sends Spalding down to 11th in the table, some 11 points off the play-offs having played a game more.

Meanwile, Pinchbeck jumped out of the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North relegation zone after securing their first win since back in September.

Goals from Zane Millar in the first half and Nick Jackson after the interval secured the Knights a 2-1 success at relegation rivals Selston, who they leapfrog in the table – albeit having played a game more than them.

That result was bad news for rock-bottom Holbeach, who suffered their 15th defeat from 17 games after a 5-0 thrashing at fellow strugglers Quorn.

Under the caretaker charge of club legends Phil Barnes and Dean Elston following Gary Frost’s exit on Tuesday night, the Tigers saw their winless run drag on to 17 games and they are now a worrying ten points from safety.

More to follow on all games.
