Saturday football: Smith steers Tulips to away win, Tigers frustrated and Pinchbeck beaten again

A Jack Smith strike earned Spalding United a 1-0 win at Loughborough Dynamo on Saturday, while Holbeach United were held to a 0-0 draw by Oadby Town and Pinchbeck United suffered a 2-0 home loss against ON Chenecks.

Starting with the Tulips, they put their disappointing festive results behind them with an impressive BetVictor NPL South East Division win.

Striker Smith fired the only goal of the game midway through the first period to send Spalding up to ninth in the standings.

Holbeach, meanwhile, drew a blank against 17th-placed Oadby at Carter’s Park despite making it 12 games unbeaten in all competitions.

The Tigers are fifth in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division table as a result, three points behind leaders Shepshed Dynamo having played  two games more.

A the other end of the table, Pinchbeck – who handed starts to new signings Nick Bishop and Ollie Gale – are nine points from safety after suffering their 15th defeat from 18 league games this season.

Goals on 41 and 60 minutes settled the contest at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox moved into the semi-finals of the Lincs Junior Cup with a 4-2 win at Stamford Lions.
