Saturday football: Maltby sends Pinchbeck 13 clear, Tigers and Tulips both held at home

Relentless Pinchbeck United moved 13 points clear at the top of ChromaSport UCL Division One with a 1-0 win at Rushden and Higham United on Saturday, while Holbeach United were held 1-1 by Leicester Nirvana in the Premier Division and Spalding United drew 0-0 with Market Drayton United in Evo-Stik NPL First Division South.

Starting with the Knights, Ollie Maltby’s 30th goal of the season was enough to earn them a 22nd win of the campaign.

Maltby struck on the stroke of half-time at Hayden Road to move Pinchbeck ever closer to their first-ever UCL Division One title.

With nine games left, Ian Dunn’s Knights are an amazing 13 points clear with two games in hand on second-placed Raunds Town.

Up in the Premier Division, Holbeach’s hopes of lifting the title took a hit as they could only draw with KO Cup finalists Leicester Nirvana.

Lewis Leckie gave the Tigers the lead on 35 minutes, only for Jordan Nelson to level matters just before the break.

Neither side could find a second-half winner at Carter’s Park, meaning Seb Hayes’ Holbeach slip to fifth place in the table and are now six points behind leaders Yaxley – albeit with four games in hand.

The most uneventful game of the afternoon was at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, where Spalding played out a goalless draw with struggling Market Drayton.

The stalemate ensures that the Tulips remain in 15th place, but they are now just six points clear of the sole relegation place.

Down in the ChromaSport PDFL, Moulton Harrox were handed a sensational 6-1 home drubbing by Premier Division rivals Netherton United in the semi-final of the President Premier Shield.

Joe Townsend was Harrox’s scorer in the Broad Lane beating.

Holbeach United Reserves also bowed out of the same competition at the semi-final stage, losing 3-2 at Thorney after extra time.

In the Division One, leaders Moulton Harrox Reserves were held to a 2-2 draw at title rivals Peterborough Polonia, while Tydd St Mary cruised to a comfortable 4-0 home victory over Ramsey Town.

Fellow Division One side Long Sutton Athletic saw their game at Stamford Belvedere abandoned.
