Saturday football: Losses for Spalding United and Holbeach United but Pinchbeck and Moulton both bag wins

Both Spalding United and Holbeach United suffered defeats on Saturday, while Pinchbeck United and Moulton Harrox recorded victories to keep their respective title charges alive.

Starting with Spalding, they slipped to a 1-0 home defeat against fellow Evo-Stik NPL First Division South high-fliers Witton Albion.

In a game of few chances at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, a fine first-half winner from Bradley Bauress (11) was enough for the second-placed visitors.

The Tulips remain third in the table and have a seven-point cushion from their other play-off rivals.

In the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division, Holbeach United slumped to a disappointing 3-0 defeat at mid-table Wellingborough Town.

Jack Wisniewski and Adam Speight gave the Doughboys a 2-0 lead at the break, with Jake Gillingwater rounding off the rout after the interval.

The loss sees Holbeach slip to ninth in the table.

In the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division, Pinchbeck United beat title rivals Netherton United 2-1 at Knight Street thanks to goals from Ollie Maltby and Liam Ogden – the latter with a winner ten minutes from time.

Ian Dunn’s side remain four points behind leaders Peterborough Sports Reserves in second.

Moulton Harrox are third, three points further back, after a 2-1 home win over Langtoft United.

Also in the top flight, Holbeach Reserves beat Uppingham Town 6-1 and Crowland Town drew 0-0 at Wisbech Town Reserves.

In Division One, a Matt Cawthorn hat-trick inspired Long Sutton Athletic to a 7-0 win over Stamford Belvedere.

Leaders Moulton Harrox won 5-3 at third-placed Warboys Town to make it 23 games unbeaten, while second-placed Sutton Bridge United went down 4-1 at home to Whittlesey Reserves.
