Saturday football: Bird at double in Tigers’ sixth win on spin, Tulips and Knights both beaten

Holbeach United made it six wins on the trot by beating hosts Harborough Town 2-0 on Saturday, but both Spalding United and Pinchbeck United slipped to defeats.

Starting with the Tigers, goals in each half from striker Will Bird was enough to earn Seb Hayes and his side all three points at Bowden’s Park.

The victory keeps them eighth in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division table.

Spalding, meanwhile, suffered a 1-0 loss at Market Drayton Town in Evo-Stik NPL First Division South.

Tyrell McFarlane (41) netted the only goal for the hosts, while the Tulips – rocked by the departure of Nathan Whitehead to higher-graded Matlock Town on Friday – missed a golden chance to level when Gary King saw his penalty saved.

The loss leaves Chris Rawlinson’s side in sixth place ahead of Tuesday night’s visit of second-placed Basford United (7.45pm).

Down in ChromaSport UCL Division One, Pinchbeck were handed a 3-2 home reverse by Olney Town.

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox were 5-2 winners at Sherpa in the Lincs Junior Cup and Sutton Bridge United battered Deeping Rangers Reserves 4-1 in ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division.
