Ryder on time for its 50th

A shop is celebrating 50 years of raising money for charity.

The Sue Ryder Book Shop, on the corner of The Crescent and Priory Road, opened on the latter in March 3, 1975 initially selling bric-a-brac.
It’s expanded into the properties either side and when the clothing side moved to its current site in Francis Street in November 2004, began to specialise in books.
In those 50 years there have only been four managers of the store, with Paul Redford having taken on the role for the last 20 years after taking over from John Haresign.
“We’ve had fantastic support,” said Paul. “Our customers are great.
“We have lots of regulars who come in every week and sometimes more than once a week and they make a huge difference.
“We have to say a huge thank you to all the businesses that have and continue to help us and especially to our amazing customers and donors.”
