Running club in Spalding to promote wellbeing through exercise

A group established in Spalding to support mental health issues is beginning a running club to promote wellbeing through exercise.

Community Mind Matters is planning weekly runs, with the first being on Friday, February 12 (meet outside South Holland Centre at 11am). Anybody is welcome.

Vanessa Browning, one of Community Mind Matters’ founders, said: “While it is really just about getting together and doing something for ourselves, if we can get enough people to join then the club will help to raise money for other local causes in time.
“In the meantime, with body image being such a big issue these days I am hoping the club can also help make local people feel more comfortable.”

Another founder of the group – district councillor Jack McLean (Spalding St John’s) – said: “The wider intention of the group was to raise awareness and demonstrate support for mental health issues locally. In a town like ours, we have always believed the best way to do that is to bring people together. This new idea subtly encompasses everything we try to do and I look forward to seeing it grow alongside our other projects.”

In the coming months there will also be a meeting to look at how the group can respond to the needs of the area.
