Rules should help parking problems

New parking restrictions are set to be introduced near Lutton’s primary school.

Members of the county council’s planning and regulation committee are due to discuss the issue at a meeting on Monday.

There had been objections to proposal for a Traffic Regulation Order on Marriots Gate.

“Investigations have taken place in the vicinity of Lutton St Nicholas Primary School to determine if measures are required to manage on street parking associated with parents and carers dropping off and picking up school children,” a report says.

“Observations have shown that parking both sides of Marriots Gate and in the junction of Puddingpoke Lane results in obstruction of to traffic flow and restricts forward visibility,” it adds.

There was an objection received about the proposals.

“The objector has concerns about displacement of cars elsewhere in the village and that the parking problems are caused by school-related activity and should be addressed by the school rather than affecting residents with proposed restrictions.”

They suggested alternatives such as using part of the school field for drop-off and collections or converting a nearby lay-by into marked parking.

“These concerns have been noted. The proposed restrictions have been kept to a minimum so displacement of vehicles does not cause further issues in the village, the school keep clear markings will be reduced in length thereby increasing the available unrestricted parking near to the school.”

There was a public consultation in March last year and all potentially affected residents were posted the relevant documents.

The proposed restrictions include mandatory Keep Clear markings (zig-zag) in operation Monday to Friday 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm.

There will be a no-waiting at any time on the junction of St Nicholas Way and Marriots Gate with Puddingpoke Lane. Also at the junction of Vicarage Lane and Puddingpoke Lane.
