Royal thrones outside station

New benches have been put in place outside Spalding station to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

South Holland District Council leader Gary Porter and councillors Gary Taylor and Glynis Scalese used their allocated ward budgets to purchase the specially crafted designs that replace old, worn benches.

The new benches were installed by Coun Jack Tyrrell and Ivan Thompson with Jan Whitbourn organising.

Coun Porter said: “It was a pleasure on behalf of the people of Spalding St Mary’s and the wider district to be able to sponsor this permanent tribute to Her Majesty the Queen at this nationally significant moment in time.

“Hopefully as weary travellers rest here on their journeys they will remember all of the great things that Spalding has to offer and to reflect on the reign of Queen Elizabeth the Second.”

Coun Taylor added: “These are in such an important area of the town as it’s the first place visitors will see.”

The councillors say they’re working to get more bins in the area and are looking for potential sponsors for them.
