Road safety lesson for pupils

Pupils in KS1 at Holbeach Primary Academy have taken part in the National Road Safety Programme.

Staff from Spalding firm Gist took their HGV cab into school and taught the children about road safety regarding HGV lorries and how to keep themselves safe.

They had the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat where they found out they couldn’t see their fellow pupils at the front of the cab.

They learnt how difficult it would be for an HGV driver to see them on the road and how small they would look, thinking about how far the lorry would need to stop.

They also learned about where to stand on the pavement when lorries are passing them.

A school spokesman said: “It was a fantastic day and our thanks to all at Gist for making this possible.”
