Revamp planned at McDonald’s restaurant and drive thru

McDonald’s wants to revamp its Long Sutton restaurant and drive thru.

The fast good giant has applied to South Holland District Council for planning permission to give the premises alongside the A17 a “fresher, more contemporary façade”.

The plans include a new roof design and an extra drive thru lane to ease congestion at busy times.

A design and access statement accompanying the application says: “The new concept attempts to re-invent the older look of this McDonald’s Restaurants and bring it up-to-date with this new “Folded Roof” concept and improve the overall operation of the drive thru lane.

“Historically the drive thru operation has been managed on an ad hoc basis using the existing drive thru lane with two members of staff using hand held computers taking orders from customers in “parallel” (one vehicle in front of another other).

“The intention of the alteration of the existing parallel process is to streamline and formalise the ordering process during peak trading times without the need to have members of staff outside of the building.  This will also assist in reducing the length of the potential queue, by increasing the speed of preparing the orders and thus reducing congestion within the site during those busy periods.”

A decision on the application is expected to be made by July 31.
