Relentless St Norbert’s get defence of their hockey crown off to flier

Defending champions St Norbert’s Catholic Primary School picked up where they left off at the first Primary Schools Hockey Tournament of the season last Friday.

The team extended their unbeaten run to 29 games in this competition, winning all five games – scoring 22 goals and conceding just one.

Game one saw them record an emphatic 8-0 win over Boston St Mary’s, with five goals from Jude Thompson and a hat-trick from Mckenzie East.

Then they earned a 2-1 win over newly-promoted side St John The Baptist Primary, thanks to goals from Thompson and Josh Norey.

The next opponents for St Norbert’s in game three were Ayscoughfee Primary.

This was settled by four more goals from Thompson, finished after fine interplay from East, Charlie Roberts and Aidan McMurray.

Game four was against rivals John Harrox’s Primary. Resolute defending was Harrox’s tactic from the off, but St Norbert’s maintained their patience and won 2-0.

Smart hockey from McMurray, East and Thompson saw them go 1-0 up, before a super solo strike from East.

The final match was a 6-0 success over Pinchbeck East A. Two early goals took Thompson’s tally to 13, before Roberts’ double made it 4-0. It was then left to Norey and East to round off the scoring.
